We did it! – Our first Bfriends Charity Walk raises £8,000

Last week’s Bfriends Charity Walk was an overwhelming success, raising over £8,000 (and counting) to help continue work alongside Birmingham Children’s Trust, providing care-experienced children and young people with opportunities, guidance, and support.

Pauline Manby, Bfriends Fundraising Manager, said: “What a truly special day. The journey to our very first Bfriends Charity Walk was challenging, rewarding, and completely worth it—because of the difference it will now make to the children and young people we support. This event was brought to life for the very first time with the help of an incredible team and community. Every person involved helped create something meaningful that goes far beyond the walk itself.”

The four-mile walk took place on the picturesque grounds of Packington Estate, with eager participants ranging in age from 2 to over 80, along with well-behaved four-legged friends.

The walk was opened by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Zaker Choudhry, and Lady Mayoress of Birmingham, Zubeda Rashid, who both wished all participants a great day out.

To elevate the day, walkers were treated to the sight of a rarely seen white deer (see above), a truly magical moment. Every walker received a t-shirt, certificate, and medal (see below) – celebrating a shared achievement.

The Charity Walk would not have taken place without the support of Bfriends supporters, including two of our trustees, Dan Hickman (Jacobs) who completed the walk with his family, and AJ Zafar, marking his first Bfriends event.

Said AJ: “The Bfriends charity walk was a brilliant reminder of the power of community. Seeing so many people come together for children in care and care experienced young people was genuinely inspiring. Every step helped raise awareness, support and connection for young people who deserve to feel backed, seen and celebrated. I’m proud to support Bfriends and grateful to everyone who made the day possible.”

Bfriends were also grateful for the support of our co-sponsors OTD Training, who joined us on the day, and AB Spedition; Print To Go who sponsored hi-vis clothing; and Dean Marks 360 Design who supplied discounted t-shirts and an event banner.
